The drilled holes in the Tailbone are sized as pilot holes, just big enough to allow the screw to go in but small enough to give good grip on the threads.
The user drilled holes in the deck are sized as through holes, these are big enough to allow the screw to fit easily in the hole and allow the head to snug up nicely to the surface of the deck when tightened. It is important that these user drilled through holes in the deck are the correct size.

I bought this for practicing 360 kick turns and the like so that I wouldn't wear my tail down as quick. It appears to be quality, but, I realized after purchasing it that really I would want something that would fit a Popsicle shaped board. I have a Vallely re-issue board and it will fit that perfectly. It would be nice if they had a Tail Bone for modern boards. I can see why they wouldn't make one though as pretty much no one uses them. I just wanted it for a board specifically for working on kick turn spins. I'm glad these are available in 2018, and the one size available seems to work well. However, I've found that after skating for a while with the tail bone, the screw on one end comes loose and tightening it down again doesn't seem to solve the problem. I think using the rat nut / screw anchor was a good solution to keep the tail bone tightly fastened to the board. I hope this method of attaching the tail bone returns someday. I was worried the 8" tailbone wouldn't fit the 10"deck. Tapers perfectly. It would be great if they re-incorporated the rat nuts. Would like to see more colors, searched forever for red to no avail. Had to settle on the black. (Posted on 8/16/2017)Rating
